Spring is here! The sun is here! After the quiet winter months, spring brings a fresh energy to the coast. It is that time of year for your first terrace on the sea wall in the sun. You can already leave your coats hanging in your rental apartment during the day. Beach walks are pure enjoyment. And honestly? We think spring is perhaps the best time to be at the seaside. Winter at the seaside has its charm. Because whoever is at the seaside then, enjoys the vast beaches where you hardly meet anyone. You see dramatic skies, hear the constant sound of the waves and get a wonderful breath of fresh air with every walk.
But spring? That brings a whole different vibe. It remains wonderfully quiet. But the days are lighter, warmer and longer. So you still have plenty of room for long walks on the beach, with a pleasant spring sun on your face.

Spring is the perfect time to get a taste of summer. A few days at the seaside and you will feel reborn. The combination of fresh air, exercise and relaxation works wonders.
Or try out the first warm sunbeams on the beach. If we put up our windbreak, it can be wonderful to stay. Out of the wind in the sun. Try it out with the windscreen that comes with your apartment with sea view.
And the good thing is that you avoid the crowds of the high season in the spring. But you can already enjoy everything that makes the coast so special.
Nature in the dunes awakens
The dunes and nature reserves around the coast slowly change from dry and grey to green and lively at this time. Birds are busy with their nests and the grass gets its fresh green colour again.
Cycling or walking through the dunes is highly recommended in spring, because there too you can literally see nature awakening.
And if you are lucky or just walk to the harbor channel, You will undoubtedly spot a seal that is also enjoying the sun.t. Just wait a few more months and you can swim with a seal, like I once did.
Perfect temperature for activities
A fresh breeze, a sun that does not burn mercilessly and enough energy to actively go out. What better weather could you wish for an activity on the Belgian coast?
Rent a bike and explore the coastline. Or head out to charming villages nearby. And after an active day? Then that fresh fish on a terrace tastes just that little bit better.
Spring feeling on the sea wall
The first ice creams are sold again. Terraces come to life and the atmosphere at the seaside becomes more pleasant.
You don't have the mass tourism yet like in the summer. You do enjoy a pleasant liveliness of joggers, walkers, cyclists and yes, the first swimmers.
Stroll along the sea wall. Enjoy a coffee in the sun and breathe in that wonderful salty sea air. You can just feel that everyone is happy that spring has started.
Dogs still run free on the beach
And don't forget your faithful four-legged friend!
For dogs spring is perhaps the best time to go to the sea. It is still quiet on the beach, so your dog can often run freely and play in the sand. And be honest: what is more beautiful than a happy dog sprinting after a stick or ball with his ears in the wind?

The sun is already shining nicely, but it is not too hot to take long walks. And in the dunes and along the sea wall it is also wonderful for dogs to sniff and discover. So, do you want to enjoy spring together with your dog?

Between 1 October and the start of the Easter holidays, dogs are allowed on all Ostend beaches. Always mandatory on the beach: a bag for the poop!
